Do You Know Bacteria Can Eat The Plastics

If Any One Says You That Bacteria can Eat(degrade) Plastics So, How's Your Reaction ?

Do you know global use of plastics is growing at a rate of 12% per year and around 0.15 billion tones of synthetic polymers are produced worldwide every year.

According to central pollution control board of India, total plastics waste which is collected and recycled in the country is likely to be 9,205 tone per day (approximately 60% of total plastics waste)  and 6,137 tones remains uncollected and littered.

Plastics can be degraded to a certain extent by using mechanical methods but the end - products such as micro and Nano - plastics find their way into the marine and terrestrial ecosystem

Also we can degrade plastic by using bacteria, bacteria have a many types but not all bacteria is capable for break down plastics bonds, but their is a one bacteria which can break down PET plastics

PET is a one the member of the polymer it has a combination of TPA(terephthalic acid ) and EG(ethylene glycol)

The bacteria which is degrade (eat) the PET it's name is ideonella  sakaiensis. this Bacteria identified in 2016 by a team of researchers led by kohel ode of Kyoto institute of technology and keio university.

Ideonella sakaiensis isolated from waste bottle or PET material which is not useful.

- The genus ideonella belong to the family comamondaceae of the class betaproteobacteria.
- This bacteria grows within the PH range 5.5-9.0 and temperature is 15-42 Celsius.

Mechanism of plastics eating (degrading)

Ideonella sakaiensis is react with PET and gives PETase , Which generates the intermediate mono(2-hydroxyethy) terephthalic acid (MHET).

This MHET is taken up by isakaiensis and then hydrolyzed by the second enzyme , the intracellular
MHET hydrolase (MHETase), to furnish two starting monomers TPA and EG,
this all process took 6 week time and 30 celsius

That's how this bacteria was eating plastics in future we will find some more plastics eating bactaria which was helps us to decrees pollutions from plastics.

If this information is helps you to gain some new and different knowledge so please share this blog so that every body know about this type of bacteria's.

And also let me know that which topic would you like to see in next blog.
